Act 2, Scene 8 – “Don’t say the M-Word.”

5easystepsmacbeth-page-001Notes on Macbeth in Five Easy Steps

The Shakespeare in Five Easy Steps series returns for this week’s slightly late entry, with a guide to everyone’s favourite invincible Caledonian tyrant Don’t-Say-The-M-Word.

Ever since I introduced Macbeth to Zounds, I’ve been thinking about how to handle Lady M. Should she be as enormous as her husband? In the end, it seemed a much more interesting idea for her to be really small even compared to average-sized characters, yet still be the real power next to this giant. I’m pleased with how she’s turned out. She’s a very simple design and doesn’t really have a big visual gimmick, apart from being tiny, but I think she still has a lot of character.
