Act 2, Scene 9 – “The sheer force of his resentment.”

Timon-page-001Notes on Timon

Timon of Athens comes to Zounds this week as we ask what it would take to make this most ill-fated of protagonists happy?

I wanted to add Timon to the series as soon as possible once I had the idea of giving him dots for eyes – as if they’ve shrunk away to nothing under the sheer force of his resentment. There’s something very hard-edged and solid about him, like he’s been carved out of rock.  As for his new best friend, it’s been pointed out to me that it just might be Portia’s spirit animal. There’s definitely a bit of a resemblance with the long face and the flowing mane…
